A Little Bit About Me...

My name is Perry Miles. I have quite a bit of experience tutoring and have attended some of the best schools in the country. I went to the Newhouse School (at Syracuse University) and studied broadcast journalism to get my bachelors Degree before earning my Masters in Health Informatics from USF Tampa this past December. I was a teaching assistant throughout high school. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. I was selected to teach intensive intervention and pursued my Master’s degree with a concentration in remedial reading. During the past four years I have taught 2nd-adult English Language Learners and tutored K-adult students in all disciplines.

My comments on tutoring Literature : Graduate degree in English and American Literature. Taught English at secondary and college levels.

After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. Prep., Latin, and other subjects in Springfield, MA in 2003 in an alternative, urban high school. I taught (and tutored after school) until I moved to Florida in 2009, when my spouse began graduate studies at U.S.F. Literature is one of my top subjects!

After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
