A Little Bit About Me...

As a math major, I tutored my peers throughout college. While I can tutor almost any math subject and several science subjects, my favorite subject to teach is algebra. I have found that those who struggle with higher math, including calculus and differential equations, often struggle due to lacking a solid foundation in algebra. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always felt that everyone can learn. I recognize that for some there are more obstacles to overcome and it may take more time and energy, but I still believe they are capable. I have come across many students that have somehow got it in their mind that they "just can't do math" and not once have I seen this to be true. Children and adults learn in different ways. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic are three ways that people can learn, I happen to be mostly kinesthetic. I alter how I teach depending on what my students need and what the resources are. I do use a constructivist teaching style to do this. I do believe that a student rises to the expectations of the instructor. I also believe that the responsibility of learning should be increasingly the students as they take over their own education away from the instructor. I am a recent graduate with straight A’s from Lewis-Clark State College with a major in Biology. I took many classes in math to receive my degree. I tutored students at the University of Montana enrolled in biology and anatomy courses. The students I tutored had significantly better test scores than their previous ones. At LCSC, I assisted one of my professors for her online chemistry courses. I made keys and graded their homework and added notes to help them for future assignments.
