My comments on tutoring Poetry : I am a curator and founder of the "Eight St. Taproom Poetry Series", which is a bi-weekly local poetry event, with Open Mic and visiting guest poets in Lawrence, KS. Because each individual student is important to me, I seek to get to know each student personally while retaining a professional demeanor. This helps me understand the student's particular needs so that I may teach the student most effectively. My naturally gentle personality makes me a patient and encouraging teacher. I strive to help each student grasp concepts rather than merely memorizing facts. I also encourage learning through discovery and hands-on experience as much as possible. I think learning is fun, and I try to communicate that enthusiasm to my students.
