I have just finished junior year of high school and will be a senior this fall. Throughout my life I have always been especially good at math. I never fail to get an A in math every year. In 10th grade I decided to skip Pre-Calculus from Algebra 2 to AP Calculus BC when I enter 11th grade. Interestingly, I still found AP Calculus BC to be relatively easy. I am the vice president of a tutor club at La Costa Canyon High School. I teach students after school all subjects. I also tutored students outside of school. During my junior year I tutored a girl in Pre-Algebra who did not understand how graphs work. I also tutored a high-schooler in Pre-Calculus two weeks ago who had a final in two days. I don't have one specific teaching style... I believe the style should be developed based on observing how the student learns best. One style would not be successful with all students. I like to spend a couple of weeks trying out methods and seeing which ones work best, then develop a method that specially fits your students learning ability.
I have five plus years experience in tutoring students of all ages in all areas of math. I have tutored in math ranging from pre-algebra to calculus, and I also have experience in working with students with learning disabilities. I enjoy a challenge, and I enjoy helping students to see math in a different light. It does not have to be hard when you can make it fun. At UCR, I was a "drop-in" tutor. This means that for hours of the day in a room with 6 chalkboards, I would teach math to any UCR student who wanted to learn and answer their questions. There was hardly any down time at all; I was constantly working. I had a team of tutors that I first worked with, then managed as a mentor in my last year. As a Mentor, I kept the team's understanding of the curriculum solid as a group effort.
