As a recent college graduate I have extensive knowledge in the physical and biological sciences, including chemistry, geology, soil science, physics, botany. I have strong writing and reading skills, as well as personal interest in history and social science. This past summer I was an intern with the City of San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Department in which I was responsible for planning and running environmental education summer camps for kids ages six to twelve. More teaching experience includes working in an after school homework club for elementary students of all grades, as well as a classroom aid in a second grade class and a kindergarden class. I also temporarily coached soccer to local youth.

I enjoy working with children and get a kick from seeing a discovery or understanding in a students eyes. I've had the opportunity to collect numerous bio. samples for hands on experience. I have also taken workshops in the workings of google earth as a teaching tool along with mapping and watershed principles.I feel I have benn successful in elightening many student's lives.
I started teaching in 1970 as a K-8 substitute, continuing until being hired by a private school in 1975. I then taught full time in East LA. Upon moving to Wa. and being certified here, I taught in several schools in differing cultural settings untill recently starting my own business in Newport. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping students succeed in math. I talk to the student to find out what the student's strengths and weaknesses are. Then I try to relate what they are learning to a skill they have already mastered. I believe students need to know the practical applications for what they are learning. Many of the practical applications come from my financial and woodworking background. I want students to understand the process for solving problems before using and relying on a calculator and to be able to tell if their answer is reasonable. To make math more fun, I like to incorporate their interests into the math they are learning when possible.

I started my college career at Drake University as a Mass Comunications major. I changed schools and recieved a double major in Business and Economics. I have 3 kids 15,11,10 and have helped them extensively, and all are excellerated students. I enjoy helping kids understand their subjects and obtaining the power to master their learning potential.
I enjoy working with children, and believe that all kids have the ability to achieve anything. As long as their mentors can give them an extra boost to understand certain concepts their ability to accomplish their projects and earn exceptional grades are endless. My approach to teaching is comprehensive and challenging. I believe in getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of my students and customizing the curriculum for optimum growth.
