A Little Bit About Me...

My strongest subject is algebra (commutative, homological, or abstract). My degree is in general mathematics so I experienced most forms of mathematics at a high college level. I began tutoring as a freshman in high school. Professionally, I have spent ten years in management in four different industries. I have been told that I explain things well.
1) Give the person you are turtoring an opportunity to tell you where they are having a problem. 2) While working through problems monitor the person you are tutoring to see if there are other problems. 3) Suggest changes. Never force them. There isn't one correct way. Make a suggestion on how to improve and explain why you are making the suggestion. 4) Do multiple versions of a similar problem. The most important element of teaching is to realize one is teaching a person. In a tutoring situation, it is especially important to discover exactly how to present material to the student. As a teacher, I seek to understand the student and then present the material using terms and examples the student can understand. Finally, I literally believe the only “stupid question” is one the learner doesn’t ask.
I hold a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree in Science Education. I was certified in the State of Louisiana to teach Chemistry, Biology, General Science, and Computer Literacy. I taught high school Chemistry, Physics, Computer Literacy, and Study Skills. I have taught Biology Lab courses and Computer Information Systems courses at the college level, and have substantial experience teaching algebra to students preparing for the GED exam.
