Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am currently working as an American Sign Language Interpreter in Tennessee and the surrounding areas. I have an Educational Interpreting Performance Assessment (EIPA) of 3.4 and hold a B.S. in American Sign Language Interpreting from Tennessee Temple University. I have tutoring experience with the language. I also specialize in ASL Interpreting in Educational settings.

After studying American Sign Language for 4 years I received my B.S. degree in American Sign Language Interpreting from Tennessee Temple University. I went on to receive a 3.4 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment and received my National Interpreter Certification- Written. I have Interpreted in a wide array of settings from Mental Health to Education; Education being my specialty. I have worked with the Deaf-Blind community as a Support Service Provider(SSP)as well as an Interpreter. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have 12 years of experience teaching American Sign Language to students (3rd - 12th grades), educators, and families of Deaf children. The best way to learn is through fun, interactive activities! I have also worked with members of the Deaf community in the capacity of Interpreter and Job Coach for 15 years. I love this language and sharing my knowledge!

Clear communication is a key to life, that's my motto. No matter which language is being spoken, the goal is to exchange thoughts in a clear and concise manner. Immersed in the culture of the Deaf for 15 years, I have come to realize that American Sign Language is the most efficient, concise language; this is primarily due to the use of visual space, body language, eye gaze and the signs themselves. Students may find learning sign language challenging until the elements of the language noted above are more deeply understood. The best way to comprehend the rules and grammar of this language, I have discovered, is through fun activities, story telling and conversation.

My comments on tutoring Sign Language : Studying to become a sign language interpreter. Set to graduate this year

Sign language interpreter is what I am getting my college degree in. Am still learning but I do know a lot, as learning a new language takes a while. Sign language is something that I really enjoy. I've interpreter things from work, nothing big but still experience. I've completed ASL 1-4. Almost done with my degree as a sign language interpreter.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is not something I had initially aspired to but found I am a teacher and motivator by nature. I love the challenge of figuring what pieces, educational, each student is missing and helping them fill the their gaps to reach the next level and have things come together for them. I am very patient and try to make each session fun and interesting. My students and work associates have always enjoyed working with me and I like feeling/knowing that we all came away with something we didn't start with.
