I believe that learning is the goal of life. While there are successes and failures there is always learning. Teaching is a priveldged position which requires integrity, honesty, humility. Teachers are duty bound to their students. Teaching is more that just imparting subject matter knowledge, it is about advancing a students critical thinking and ideally advancing their sense and belief in themsleves. All students can learn and it is up to the teacher to find the right method and style to make the greatest impact. I have been blessed with several great teachers in my life. A Little Bit About Me...

My style is relaxed, but focused, with a touch of humor to ease nerves. The first step is creating comfort and trust between the student and the tutor. To do this, when coaching Chemistry, I would have the student present a problem. Then, I'd say, well, let's figure this out together. And, truly, that is what we would do, step by step, by asking questions. What do we know? What do we need to figure out? Essentially showing them the thought process out loud, and involving them in obtaining the solution. This approach helps develop confidence. Repeating creates familiarity. Eventually, most students become confident enough to try one on their own, and my role becomes encourager, light-hearted and sincere.
