Opening doors and creating joy in learning is what I genuinely enjoy about teaching. Leading my students to see the world and themselves in new ways is one of the most satisfying aspects of the task. I teach with humor and compassion, but encourage self discipline and striving for personal best in each of my students. I believe that every person has the capacity to learn and teach critical and analytical skills, because the ability to think is the fundamental ability in all learning situations. I am an Ivy League Graduate with Doctoral level graduate Studies from Indiana University. My minor for each of my study areas is Psychology. At Hope College I received a liberal arts education. So even though I have a degree in music theatre, I am also well-educated in other fields. For instance I wasn't required to take Calculus in college, however, I took this challenging course and I passed the class with an A. I have also worked at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre as a teacher’s assistant and camp assistant the past three summers. These camps work with kids from ages 9-13. Along with looking out for the safety of the children, I participated in activities and helped come up with material. I have also worked as a director, producer, and a choreographer. This has allowed me to discover that other people have different ways of learning. Every student is different; some require more help than others. As a current student at Central Michigan, I continue to strive for the best education I can possibly achieve. I have clepped out or aced all english classes at the college level and have found a great interest in writing and reading papers and essays. I am extremely familiar with both APA and MLA writing styles and have had numerous hours and years of practice writing papers and essays for my college level courses. I received a 1 on my MEAP writing and a 30 on my ACT writing/English section. Al though I have never technically tutored or taught a child writing, I am interested in helping aid a child's learning experience. I am extremely personable and social, and would get along great with any child. I am patient, understanding and eager to provide my extensive knowledge of writing to those that need help.
