I like helping students learn and seeing them succeed. I feel the best way to teach a student is by finding out which technique they most agree with. I am patient and easy going and want to provide the best education possible. With the appropriate learning experiences, I believe any student can meet their potential and my goal is to help them do so. I have recently graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in statistics. The coursework in this program has allowed me to gain an understanding of many areas of statistics and mathematics. In addition, I have learned grammatical skills through writing reports and essays in English classes. While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques. I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. As a young R.O.T.C cadet, I was very driven to excel in my college education. On my way to becoming a young Army Officer, I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Communications and BA in Accoutning. At Amherst College, we were encouraged to pursue a wide variety of subjects in addition to our major. I studied math for several years, some Biology, Latin and Greek. I had a semester of graduate school at Iowa in Classics. At Tulane, I studied advanced statistics as well as marketing. I had two years of Spanish at DMACC. I also studied Bosnian and German at DMPS Continuing Education. For all standardized tests, I always scored in the top 1% including the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GMAT. I returned to the University of Northern Iowa to start working toward a Master Degree in Accounting so I might be able to teach again. I enjoyed teaching at the college level since you had few people that were not interested in learning. I taught three years in a Public School system and thirteen years at Hamilton Business College at Mason City, Iowa. I taught all phases of accounting while at Hamilton. After I retired from teaching, I became the accountant for three different firms in Mason City ( an oral surgeon, ready mix company and a road contractor) for eight years.
