A Little Bit About Me...

Both of my parents were teachers so education is very important to me. My experience in teaching ranges from working with elementary children as a teacher's assistant to being an Adult Education Instructor. I worked with 3rd graders who were low in math and reading for about 3 years. My greatest challenge and motivation came from assisting all ages in their quest for improved reading skills or a GED. This was over a time span of 15 years. I am always available to help anyone with their writing projects. I love to work with words and create something that is pleasing to read or easy to understand.

I earned both my Bachelor's of Arts in English and my Master's of Science in Public Relations from the University of Southern Mississippi. While at USM, I served as the Assistant to the Graduate Reader as a graduate student, where my job was to proof graduate and Ph.D. students' theses and dissertations. This job, in particular, helped me become extremely familiar with APA and MLA formatting, as well as everyday grammar and word usage. I also took a number of education classes while persuing my Bachelor's degree.
I realize that, in order for a student to want to learn, the subject must be presented to them in an interesting way. From 1998-2003, I taught English and French at the University of Yaounde. From January 2004 to May 2009, I taught French and English at Pennington Jr. High in Indianola,MS. I spent the current school year with Sunflower County Schools as foreign language coordinator and as from August 2010, I will be working with Jackson Public Schools. I am also a faculty consultant with ETS and Mississippi Virtual Public School.
I prefer a participative and collaborative teaching style. This involves an active participation of the students. My role is limited to that of guide, facilitator, and helper. Instead of telling or giving students the concepts or skills, I help them discover them. This allows for easier comprehension and longer retention.
