My career has been in advertising, graphic design, and editing/ publishing. In recent years, I have substituted in area junior and high schools, and I have taught at a certificate-granting school (now a junior college) with an emphasis on English grammar and composition.
I most enjoyed teaching young adults and adults as they prepared for tangible competencies and careers. By my encouraging this group of diverse students to help me assess their work through journal writing, they became partners. I have also completed coursework in anatomy and physiology. In addition to tutoring college level students I have worked with elementary and middle school children in church youth groups, assisting with bible verse memorization and reading skills,as well as staging music productions. My experience also includes homeschooling my own children and assisting in classrooms.
My teaching style is relaxed, but focused. I believe all children can be natural learners, especially when they find something that interests them. Patience is the key with children. I developed a patient style of simply allowing a student to set his own pace yet make sure he lives up to his own promises.
