I have 27 years of special needs teaching experience. I have taught students in all grade levels. I taught at the elementary level (K-6th) for 14 years; at the junior high level (7th-8th) for 3 years and at the high school level (9th-12th) for 10 years. My strength is teaching basic skills (reading and math) and organizational/study skills and helping students to realize their individual potential.
My teaching style depends upon the learning style of the student. For example, if the student is a visual learner then the student is taught using pictures, books, charts, etc. Or if the student is an auditory learner then the student is taught orally with pictures, books, charts used as supports. As a special needs teacher I individualized lessons for students.

A Little Bit About Me...

It was a drive within my nature or inner self to pursue a course in Child Development and Family Relations and a minor in Psychology as I attended college at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. My direction following those events led me to teach as an assistant teacher and then as a classroom teacher at a private school working with the young children in Preschool and Kindergarten. I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.
Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico.

I spent 2 years in mexico teaching in spanish. During some of that time i was the teacher for english classes. I graduate this december with my bachelors in physics, experience of working with classmates and helping other students as they helped me gave me years of experience working as a team on homework assignments.
I have found through my teaching that there is a motto that works very well in most situations. "Teach in such a way that it is impossible to not understand" basically if one can teach a complex subject in such a way that even a child can understand it then you are successful as a teacher. But with physics that is not always possible. It is all about the person learning not for me to hear myself talk and get through a lesson. All that matters in the end is what the student learned coming out of the the instruction.
