Encouraging & Patient Elementary Tutor

I have grown up around kids my whole life. I am the oldest of four kids and my mom has a day-care in her home. I always thought I wanted to be a singer until I decided my junior year in high school I need to pick a more stable job. I took an internship my senior year of high school where I spent half the day at school and the other half as an intern in a Kindergarten class. I loved it and knew I wanted to teach for the rest of my life. I went a private school in Indiana and graduated in 2015 with my degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I use the Wilson Reading Program to teach students to read. The Wilson Reading program is a systematic, multi-sensory program that is a twelve step program. The program is a proven scientifically researched based program with measurable results.
I am an Intervention Specialist that teaches high school juniors and seniors with reading and writing. I have also acquired a Reading Endorsement that qualifies me as a reading specialist for grades k-12. Recently, I have furthered my reading intervention knowledge by mastering the level one certification with the Wilson Reading Systems. I enjoy incorporating games and allowing students' interests to be a part of learning so that they are more engaged. I am very confident in teaching phonics/reading skills in a variety of ways.

More About This Tutor...

I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.
I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.
