Reading Comprehension Tutor Seeks New Learners!

I have over thirty years of experience in the field of both Elementary and Secondary Education. I have taught in several Elementary and Secondary schools and also as a Public Historical Interpreter in a major museum here in North Carolina. Currently I am an experienced Reading Comprehension Tutor at an award winning elementary school located in Western North Carolina.

I tend to prefer a Socratic method of teaching where the student discovers the answer through discussion, reading and research. I will use direct instruction on occassion when the need arises but my classroom is typically humming with group work and whole class discussions.

My comments on tutoring Political Science : I have a degree in International Relations and have studied international political science extensively.

I like a very engaging style of teaching, using visuals or work sheets, charts, or picture to have hands on to help the participant learn. I am incredibly energetic when it comes to learning and want those I tutor and teach to succeed and enjoy the process of learning.

I went to Ohio State in Art, then graduated at Ohio U. I taught 14 years in Florida and Ohio , grades 1 through 12; all subjects. I taught using primarily Art and music. A Little Bit About Me...

As a student who was assisted by tutoring, I would be glad to help other students achieve excellence in their studies and gain confidence in themselves. I have been a tutor since I was in a freshmen in high school. I have tutored students in English and reading skills. I tutored a group of sixth graders, who approved their state academic scores. It was a great joy for them to see they could do it.
I enjoy tutoring a great deal because you can help the students gain confidence in themselves to do better with hard work and discpline. I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.
