The Friendly Math Guy Next Door

Although I can and have made lesson plans as a tutor, I prefer just explaining and working similar examples to whatever specific questions students bring to me in an effort to have them work through their own specific problems themselves with me there to assist.

Calculus II is one of my top subjects!

I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"
I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. I first start by showing all the students all the step involve in solving any math or science problem. After learning where the student is having trouble, I instruct them on methods for studying the materials. I allows eneanged the student in guided practice when solving a problem. I received my undergraduate Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest in 2006 in Religion and Political Science. I worked at Sloan Academics for one year in Winston-Salem as a academic tutor for a 6th-grade girl in all subjects. In January of 2009 I started the Master's Education program at Salem College to gain both a license as well as a Master's to teach secondary Mathematics. I have taken several Math classes at Salem to be able to teach (Calculus I, II, and IV, Linear Algebra), as well as successfully tutored a Wake Forest student in Calculus I in the Fall of 2009. I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student.
