A Little Bit About Me...

I have been an educator for 5 years in the public school system. I tutored through college and while I was getting my masters degree. I have taught from grades ranging from 2nd- 10th grade. I taught elementary for 4 years and I am currently a 10th grade English teacher. I teach the material that is required to pass the Mississippi state test in order for students to graduate. I have a masters degree in reading specialty and I am qualified to teach college in the subject areas of English/Language Arts and History. I have tutored elementary students during my tenure in the Air Force on a volunterr basis. I worked as a Introduction to Computers instructor at Keiser College for two semesters. I have a fascination with math and numbers. My extensive experience with budgeting and using spreadsheets and formulas has kept me fresh with my math skills. I recently tutored a 50+ adult to take a math skills test for the CRC. He passed, and was had such a sense of accomplishment, after almost giving up hope that he could pass it.

I believe children learn by experiences and examples. Making it relevant and interesting makes them to want to learn. They begin to understand the purpose for learning the material. Children have different learning styles and every child doesn't learn at the same rate. Teachers must realize this when planning lessons. Students need to know that to have the basics such as a home, a car and food for their family, they need an education. Kids don't think about the future and how their decisions will determine the rest of their lives. By helping them to set goals for themselves, they will strive to do their best and begin to realize that they can learn.
