I entered college as a pre-med student and came out a writer, but since my family insisted all writers lived in garrets, I became a teacher. Later I traveled with first a classical choir and then a rock band, put my editing skills to work for a geopolitical organization and lectured on economics, dialectical materialism, spirituality, and more mundane topics, such as camping and travel. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context.
