MATH TUTORING AT ITS BEST!

My goals in teaching are not just to promote learning of the subject matter. I also try to help the students learn to think critically and logically, learn problem-solving methods and techniques, and improve writing skills (writing clearly and concisely, explaining step-by-step processes, providing valid reasons for logical arguments). I try to help students see the course material in a holistic context by requiring them to synthesize the various concepts of the course by applying them together. In addition, I try to let students realize the interrelatedness of math to other disciplines and how certain techniques learned can be used in a daily setting.
I am a professional math tutor who has a teaching license in Mathematics for the state of North Carolina. Currently, I am teaching Precalculus, AP Calculus, and IB Mathematics in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and I have been tea ... read more

Calculus II is one of my top subjects!

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"

Calculus II is one of my top subjects! I took the AP Calculus BC exam in tenth grade and received fives on both the main portion of the exam and the AB subsection. I have taken Calculus III (multivariable calculus) at UNCC and received an A in the class. I have also done extensive extracurricular studying of calculus.

I gained my first tutoring experience by explaining difficult concepts to classmates that were struggling. I have been a tutor on WyzAnt for about half a year now. I have tutored math and physics students both at the high school and college level. All of the students that I worked with rated my lessons positively.
From my tutoring experience I have noticed that most students who have trouble understanding a difficult concept do so because they did not understand a more basic prerequisite concept, so I try to help students "fill in the gaps." When working with students, I work through a few problems with them, and then I have them do a few problems on their own to see if they understand. If I see that the student does not understand some prerequisite concepts required to solve the problems, I make sure to have them understand those concepts before continuing with the current problem ... read more

The Friendly Math Guy Next Door

Although I can and have made lesson plans as a tutor, I prefer just explaining and working similar examples to whatever specific questions students bring to me in an effort to have them work through their own specific problems themselves with me there to assist.

Tutored in all subjects ranging from College Algebra to Calculus while a student at Mitchell Community College. Calculus II is one of my top subjects! Calculus 2 is a little more difficult than calculus 1. The primary reason is the integration or antiderivation that must be learned. Integration is the most important concept to take away from calculus 2. Basically integration is the area under the curve and it is backwards derivation in respect to something. The hard part of the course is applying integration techniques to solve for various problems. I consider myself a good tutor for this subject according to peers I have tutored I can explain this concept very clearly.

I am a Mechanical Engineering and Geology dual major with a 3.6 GPA. I understand mathematics very well and have tutored fellow students in math and physics, successfully for years. I have a passion for learning and love when I can help others learn complex material and pass classes. I have aced College Math up through Differential Equations and Calculus 3 algebra, trigonometry and geometry are foundations of the higher mathematics and therefore I understand them extremely well. I know the basics of both electrical and mechanical engineering mathematics. For example, transient circuit analysis for electrical engineering and shear and moment diagrams for mechanical engineering. All types of sciences have always come naturally to me such as chemistry, biology, and physics and I have always done very well in science classes
I like students to understand how the material they are learn ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. My teaching style is to first teach the basic principles and then teach how they can be extended and used to solve problems. By helping students understand the fundamentals and problem solving techniques, they are able to think for themselves. This allows them to think more independently and solve a wider variety of problems without relying on memorization.
I have experience in engineering which includes a solid understanding of math, calculus, statistics as well as physics. I have applied and practiced these skills in various business industries over my 12 year working career. I also have experience teaching at the under graduate level for the Measurement and Instrumentation course in the engineering program at Iowa State University.

I would describe my teaching style as interactive. Im 21 years of age and I feel as though I can relate to students and actually break math problems down to where they can understand them. I had success at Warren Central high School because kids enjoyed my tutoring style and actually help them realize that math can be fun. It's all on how it's taught to you
