The best successes come after their greatest disappointments

I have experience with pre k to 8th grade tutoring in Math and English tutoring to help students prepare for Iolani and Punahou entrance exams through Dr. Takahashi Juku. I have also worked extensively with children from Japan who struggle with English. I can explain English words and grammar in Japanese and well as read and write Japanese .
I like to make my tutoring sessions productive by encouraging students to work hard to complete the taste in order to receive a reward in the form of a game or something they enjoy doing. I am very thorough in correcting assignments and make sure they fully understand the concept they are working on. I am very helpful in stimulating critical thinking for creative writing assignments.

To educate is to improve.

My style is informal. Often the humanities are perceived as "stuffy" so I've found that if students feel comfortable, they are better able to grasp the material.

Shakespeare is one of my top subjects!

I am an informal teacher because I do not yet have the experience teaching in a formal setting accept for writing lesson plans for language arts. Otherwise, I am looking forward to working with adults and children on their studies because they need the help.
I have experience in being a student in both business, math, science and language arts. I hired tutors for my children and I tutored my children but I have not begun to tudor myself. My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : Shakespeare is one of my favorite playwrights. His breadth of knowledge, range of settings and characters, variety of genres, and his play with language are wonderfully engaging and challenging. I would like to share my enthusiasm for his works with others.

I consider myself a facilitator of knowledge, encouraging my students to discover answers for themselves. To me, the process of acquiring knowledge is as important as the knowledge itself. With gentle prodding, building on what students already know, they progress quickly through problems and/or assignments. Students know much more than they think they know. Because they are doing their own thinking, they're already invested in the process. When their answers come, they own them. This increases their confidence in tackling more challenging work & in realizing their own potential. The knowledge is out there, waiting to be discovered. It is this discovery that makes teaching and learning so rewarding.

My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I have performed in two Shakespeare productions while attending high school. The two plays were The Taming of the Shrew and 12th Night.

I have an Associates in Arts and Teaching degree from Leeward Community College on O'ahu. While completing my associates degree, I was a leader for an after school program for the Leeward YMCA where I worked with students in grades K-5. Lastly, I was a paraprofessional tutor for Iroquois Point Elementary School where I shadowed an autistic child from his general education classroom to his SPED classroom.
Learning needs to be enjoyable. When students enjoy what they are learning, that means that they are engaged in what they are learning. When students are engaged, they can better grasp the concepts being taught. I make sure to get to know my student's interests so that I can relate what they are learning to situations that happen in their own lives.

Learning is Always New

A Little Bit About Me...

When I was a freshman in college, I knew that my future was in my hands. I befriended and contacted my chemistry professor and zoology advisor. I worked in both of their labs, and I was only a freshman! By studying in their research groups, I gained the experience necessary to intern at Sea Life Park Hawaii. In fact, I was published in 2007 after working for Dr. Charlie Cox in the Chemistry Department. Recognizing the need for more hands-on research experience, I found another opportunity with another professor in cellular biology.
