A Little Bit About Me...

I approach tutoring from an adaptive stance, in that I believe each student learns best in his own, unique way. Some students prefer a more direct approach while others would prefer something resembling the socratic method. My ultimate goal is for the students to be comfortable and confident with the material. I graduated from Georgia Tech in 2007 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering within a span of 3 years. A Little Bit About Me...

My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a learning rich environment(a classroom reading corner full of books is ideal for this). Research shows that a child needs 100 exposures, repetitions of for example the word “fox” to learn how to read it and make it their own.

I started substitute teaching when I was in undergraduate school just as a source of income and because I like teaching. My mother is a retired teacher who taught for over 30 years. I work as an engineer but I always find time to tutor. I have tutored with an SES program and have found that this worked really well. Focusing on how the children learn as a method to approach how they should be tutored is very effective and the children learn.
I have substitute taught for over 16 years and this past year I worked with the SES program tutoring. My areas of focus are sciences and maths but I have had to tutor reading. This year I tutored middle school students but I have tutored elementary as well. I tend to focus on the high level maths and sciences often taking long term positions in high school.
