My comments on tutoring Algebra II : I am a College Professor (History, Philosophy, Ethics, English) with many years of tutoring experience. I have a math/science background (Bronx High School of Science). I have helped many students to achieve well on standardized tests. I am patient and understanding.
In my experience, the majority of students are highly motivated. This is, for me, the key to success. However, very often, students require assistance with a wide range of ‘remediation’ in many of life’s basic competencies: a skill set that includes such issues as time management, test taking, study habits, and, sometimes, acculturation. My teaching methodology follows these simple steps:
Step 1: Motivation
Step 2: Definition & Understanding of terms
Step 3: Explanation, exploration, discussion, debate
Step 4: Questions & Answers
Step 5: Practice: Time & Effort
Step 6: Demonstration (or proof)
