A Little Bit About Me...

I have enjoyed teaching and tutoring a wide range of students in a vast array of different settings. Most recently, I have tutored reading to 4th graders at an elementary school, taught ESL and GED subjects to adults through an adult education center, and taught creative writing to 5th-8th graders at a summer camp. A Little Bit About Me...

I would describe my teaching style in terms of the activity, belaying. Slack is given to the rope at times so that the climber may advance, or traverse, the face of the mountain. When the climber feels tired, or incapable, the rope needs tightening so the climber stays secure. If the climber falls from the face of the mountain the taught rope will prevent injury or possible demise. I tend to give my students slack when I feel they are advancing in terms of curriculum, yet once I notice their tendency to rest, or falter, I tighten my teaching approach by using more straightforward methods so that they are not confused, or do not wear themselves out with struggle. This is all so they reach the top of whatever mountain they choose to conquer.

Prior to receiving my degree from University of California, Davis, I worked in the classroom as a teacher’s assistant for two Professors at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California. I am patient with students and encourage them to learn at their own pace. Students learn at a different rates and have different comprehension abilities. Some are able to absorb a material faster than others.
