In teaching I am basically a generalist and humanist. My background is in mathematics and the sciences, but with a solid foundation in the humanities. Practically, I have never stopped learning something new and in addition to my formal credential I have done university course work in languages, forestry, animal husbandry, and sports training. I believe my teaching style is one in which I help students make associations by way of discovery and interconnections. Ideally, teaching styles should be individually tailored to the student's needs. The one-on-one environment of tutoring offers an exceptional opportunity to do this! The learning styles of students vary widely; however, I believe all students respond to an approach which includes kindness, respect, persistence, and the acceptance of the student as an individual. I believe in encouraging students to ask questions, and showing them where to find the answers.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught and been certified in four states. Grades 7-9 is the level I prefer, though I have taught at the Junior College level also. History is my major, and having spent much of my youth on the European continent with my father's duty assignments, it is easy to teach the events that have led to the present situations. English and education were my minors, and they have become essential living in an area where more Spanish is spoken than our native tongue. Also the impact of "computer english"has destroyed in many the ability to communicate in a formal manner, with language and vocabulary necessary to achieve success outside the academic sphere.
