In order to account for individual learning styles and engage learners appropriately, my lessons include tasks that incorporated visual, audio, and kinesthetic learning styles. Visual tasks were presented using the whiteboard, computer or manipulatives to list the essential points of a lecture, and students were provided with an outline to follow along with during instruction. Audio learners can be presented material in an oral language format. In the classroom setting, students can listen to instruction and participate in group discussions. It is in my belief that teaching students to learn enables them to think independently allowing them to become more creative rather than repetitive. I believe in individualized teaching. In my sixth grade classroom, I individualized instruction wherever possible. In reading I tested my students and placed them in books at their reading level. I had them write reading summaries and corrected their first drafts. In sixth weeks, I retested and in most instances moved students to a higher level. In my math classes, I tested students and had them begin at the level that they needed to master. If a student could not add, I had him work on his addition skills.
