I began 'teaching' as the head wakeboarding instructor at Coble Ski School in Lillington, NC, when I was a junior in high school. Shortly thereafter I took a position working at a beach resort in Pensacola, FL, where I spent an entire summer instructing surfing, kayaking and sailing. At Duke I tutored during each of my four years, either biweekly at a local Durham elementary school or at the Emily K Family Life Center. It is there where I tutored once weekly as a senior, up until I graduated in May. I have tutored in all subjects and all ages up through 22. During my education program through the University of South Florida I had to complete 3 internships withing the Sarasota County School System. During my 1st internship I was placed in a 5th grade classroom at Garden Elementary School in Venice, FL. In this internship I spent my time working with small groups in the classroom during their reading block as well as working with students one-on-one. During my 2nd internship I was placed in a 5th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom at Cranberry Elementary in North Port, FL.
