My comments on tutoring Genetics : Punnett squares, dominant, recessive, genotype, phenotype, crossing over, nucleotides - the words alone could get you. I enjoy the puzzles you can solve with knowledge of genetics, and I have excellent tools to help students learn about the dazzle of genes.

Multiple ways of presenting material; musically, visually, building models, finding answers by testing a hypothesis; experimenting, measuring, observing, seeing, touching.
Teaching middle school and high school science from 1983 to 2004, including every science subject listed in the TutorSelect list. I have worked as an educational consultant for national science laboratories, helping them train their scientists to work better in the school classrooms where they volunteer. I have worked for museums and for outdoor education programs, but have found the most satisfaction as a classroom teacher with all kinds of students. I have worked teaching teachers, but they were very difficult students.

A Little Bit About Me...

With a BA in Biology and research experience at Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, as well as, the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, I have used and learned extensive mathematical skills as well as grammatical skills for writing research papers and maintaining precise calculations in dosing. I tutored students in calculus, algebra, chemistry, and biology while also attending classes. I was elected to the Dean's Honor List as well as nominated to the Chancellor's List. I had a 3.3 GPA while participating in Soccer and tutoring on an as need basis.
I have a passion for teaching and working with children of all ages. One of the most rewarding aspects about guiding students is finding the way they channel their thoughts and using it to their advantage. As a result of being ADHD, I am sympathetic to the struggles many students have to concentrate and as a result I am a tenacious but patient teacher, always determined to make the lesson fun and interesting as well as educational. I choose to live by example, just as my favorite teachers and professors did with me. I give children respect, boost their confidence and make them love what they are doing. My teaching style is encouraging, patient and enjoyable. Children and young adults are a pleasure to work with. The goal is to help them to understand processes and tools that are important for their education. The best part of it is when you have a student finally understand an interesting fact or important concept, that is the real joy of teaching!
