I went to college at Westminster College for Math then changed my major to Fine Arts. I am proficient in Math up to Calculus 2 and i can teach Art very well. I spent two years volunteering as a tutor at local elementary schools, working with students to succeed in math, reading, social studies, spelling, etc. In 2011, I was hired as a private tutor in Latin, and the student's test scores increased from a 70% average to a 94% average over two weeks. I was a straight-A student in high school, scored 2340 on the SAT (740 CR, 800 M, 800 W), and 36 on the ACT.

My teaching style is not memorization but rather practice. The best method that I found for teaching math based subjects is step by step work throughs for each problem. By taking the time to step through each math problem, the student learns the theory (Algebra, geometry, etc) as well as the solution. Just solving the problem doesn't teach them as much as understanding HOW to get the solution

I prefer to begin by having the student describe the current subject matter to the best of his/her abilities to determine a starting point. I have found that having the student talk through the subject matter can be useful in determining his/her strengths and level of understanding. I like to have the student work through some problems they have not been assigned from their book/notes so that they are able to practice and work through some other problems before attempting any assignments. I have also found that it is useful to go over any previous quizzes or tests related to the current subject matter as difficulties are sometimes related to previous work because with these subjects the work tends to build upon itself.

As an undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, I was approached by my adviser and chair-person in Physics to tutor their physics classes. I accepted their offer and within the two years of tutoring physics I enjoyed helping fellow students learn and understand the concepts of physics. Also, while helping others I could use the knowledge I have learned in previous classes and gain a better understanding of the field of physics.
