A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach students that want to learn. I have a lot of experience building confidence along with building basic skills. I believe that everyone is capable of succeeding in math and science classes, and will work to teach the child how to believe in their abilities in these subject areas. I teach through examples, and tend to ask a lot of questions, making the student come up with the answer on their own. I believe that the best way to learn is to do, and once I explain a concept, we work examples until the subject is mastered.
I have been working as a tutor at the college level throughout my college experience. I worked both for the local community college and for my self as a private tutor. I earned two bachelor degrees, a BS in chemistry with an emphasis in physical chemistry, and a BS in math with an emphasis in applied mathematics. I believe that all of my students can learn the material presented to them, if it is presented in the correct way. I have taken a lot of time to learn about the brain research that has been done to discover how different students learn. I like to have several tricks in my bag so that if one approach does not work I will have other methods to try to allow others to grasp the same material in a different way that makes sense to them. I am particularly sensitive to students who feel defeated in mathematics education and reap great rewards when I see that they are beginning to understand and believe in themselves.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had a variety of experiences as a teacher. I, at first, worked as a substitute for about 3 years. Then I worked as a 3rd-grade teacher in a private school for one year. Because of enrollment that position was cut. I went back to subbing for a time. From 2004-2009 I have worked for the Dallas School District as a personal tutor. I primarily worked with middle school-high school students. I tutored them both at home and at a computer lab on an internet program. That position was cut because of budget cuts. I am able to tutor in all basic subjects.
I enjoy the process of helping students to learn. It is a great experience to see their minds grasp a new concept or idea.
