Engaging and educating the mind

I like to give the children more hands on material, to try and reach them at their respective level. For adults, I do help them, but try and guide them to figure it out on their own. I have found in my experience that it is better retained when the client thinks through it them selves.
I have worked with children between the ages of 4-10 tutoring in areas like math and spanish. Also, I have helped adults better understand logic course material more fluently at my school NC A&T State University. Held a refresher course for elementary children during summer camps i've worked at for their english. I also like to work with the client and figure out new ways to help them better understand. This has been done through games,relevant age appropriate references, and other means.

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. Experienced math tutor.

It depends on the student and what they are doing. If all they need is practice, then I will let the student do all of the work, interjecting only to give advice or to correct a mistake if the student does not catch it themselves. If needed, I will work out similar problems. If the student needs help understanding, I first go in depth why it works and why you do what you do. I then give concrete examples to demonstrate it so that the why makes sense and comes together with the actual application. Then I have the student practice to make sure they truly understand. If needed, I will become creative and come up with different ways of looking at problems so that they can make sense. But no matter what I try to have fun. The best way to learn is to have fun, and if you aren't enjoying yourself you probably won't be receptive to learning.

I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."
I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. A Little Bit About Me...

I have had several different interactions with children of all ages, spanning from elementary to college students, and have enjoyed every experience. I am excited about becoming a teacher to influence a number of kid's lives, but also love the impact that one-on-one tutoring can have.
