A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked part time as an adjunct instructor since the '70s, including 22 years with the Orlando Program of Florida Southern College, and 11 years with Valencia Community College. The later provided me with dozens of short courses in education. I also completed and retired from a civilian career with the US Army and Navy, starting as an intern, and reaching Senior Executive levels. Very recently I have been tutoring fifth grade and seventh grade students attending Lake Highland in Orlando. Also worked with math students working at Seminole State and Valencia.
Students learn best from doing things. I try not to lecture, but to involve the student in the learning process. I can lecture, but I haven't found it to be as effective as other methods. I very much prefer tutoring to classroom teaching, mostly because I am helping people learn what they want to learn, and so ... read more

I like to get to know them and learn about their interests and help them see how a certain subject could help them. I believe its about getting on their same level, gaining their respect and having them being comfortable with you. I enjoy teaching and by doing so I can mentor and transmit to my students the necessary information more effectively. I provide high quality teaching. That means being prepared for each and every class, knowing and understanding well the subject matter. However, teaching requires also a willing student. And so, to be effective, I need to learn about the students' interests, about their skills and their expectations about the class. Communication between teacher and student is key for successful learning. I expect the students to act responsibly and to try to do their best. I expect and encourage students do their work.
