I believe that applications to everyday life should be stressed if a tutor/teacher is to pique the interest of their student(s). Rather than stressing rote memorization, I believe it is more important to relate overall concepts in a "partnering" style. I believe establishing a solid personal report of respect with a student, and finding and focusing on positive characteristics, establishes a good foundation of trust and insentive for achievement for all parties involved.
