A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been a curious person and even as an adult I enjoy learning. As a result, I have a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others. As a teacher, I am encouraging, supportive, and patient. I think it is very important to tailor teaching methods to the individual student because people learn in different ways. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all education, and I like to use my creativity in lessons to help keep learning interesting.
I earned my BA in German with a minor in music. My interest in the German language began as a child when my mother took a military assignment to Germany. In addition to the three years I lived there with my family, I completed a study abroad session during college and returned two years later as a Fulbright grantee to teach English in a German school. I believe that teaching should be as student-centered as possible. This means primarily two things. First, it means students should be as active in their education as possible. I see myself as a guide, who will teach students the skills they need to discover knowledge in the future, rather than as a provider of knowledge. Second, it means that I always take students interests, learning profiles, and abilities into account when planning lessons or tutoring sessions. More generally, I am a teacher who is extremely organized but also very creative with my lesson plans. Through making lessons interactive and interesting, I've found that students get engaged in the material and learn more effectively.
