A Little Bit About Me...

My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a learning rich environment(a classroom reading corner full of books is ideal for this). Research shows that a child needs 100 exposures, repetitions of for example the word “fox” to learn how to read it and make it their own.
I have worked with children in the public school system for thirty-four years as a classroom teacher, Title I augmented reading teacher and as a media specialist. A Little Bit About Me...

As a babysitter, elementary school tutor, and hospital volunteer growing up, I have come to love working with children. I find the opportunity to help students learn and succeed in school to be very rewarding. I am very patient, laid back, and encouraging, and I firmly believe that with a little hard work, every student can achieve good grades in school.
As a recent cum laude college graduate of Mercer University with a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry, I have an extensive background and understanding of math and chemistry. A Little Bit About Me...

As an educator,I enjoy embrassing teachable moments.I began my teaching career with Severely and Profoundly Intellectually Disabled children, who ranged in grade level from K-5. I was then granted the opportunity to teach the same class, but on a middle aged grade level. I have also, and am currently, teaching general education 8th grade students.
