I have tutored several people in the past in basic algebra for various things such as the GED or a college class. I worked for two years as a tutor at the Augusta State University Writing Center, tutoring all manner of students, from ESL to graduate students. I also tutored a student with aspergers; thus, I have experience working with special needs clients. I also do freelance editing. My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a learning rich environment(a classroom reading corner full of books is ideal for this). A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching children. For the younger children, I tend to be more hands on with projects and objects to help them learn. I also believe visual aids are very good. For middle school children learning math and English, I feel like giving them lots of practice problems and going over it together really seems to help. For students in high school it usually depends on the kid. By this age most of them have discovered if they are visual, kinetic, or auditory learners. My degree is in journalism/English Lit and my GPA in Lit was a 3.7. I have three children of my own, and they are all avid readers, with my oldest reading 150+ books per school year.
