Well, throughout my life, I have worked with fellow students to foster better understanding of class material both in myself and in my classmates. In addition to informal, unpaid cooperation in mastering class material, I have also held positions tutoring both as a freelance tutor and as an hourly employee of the Academic Advancement Center, a Trio Program run at Colorado State University. At this job, where I have worked for the past two years, I have tutored low-income, first-generation, and disabled students (both physical and learning disabilities) in a variety of subjects including Psychology, French, Composition, Sociology, and Spanish.

Teaching children takes patience and creativity. Each child is different in their attention span and interests. Making each subject important and interesting is one place to start. It is crucial to never let a child give up, and not to give up on them yourself. My goal in teaching is to determine which way the child learns, for example a visual learning may need to draw out spelling words, where an audible learner needs to recite them. I love to find new ways to relate what they are learning with life outside of school and in this way show them how important the subject is. I do believe that each child can learn, but sometimes not understanding a subject is like building a wall on a road. A tutor's job is to break down the wall and make sure that the child knows how to keep the roads clear.

As a mathematics graduate, I am very detail-oriented and organized. Throughout college I tutored college students in calculus, business math, and statistics. I also tutored high school students in Algebra 1 and 2, Trigonometry, and Geometry. My easy-going and patient teaching style created many referrals that made me a successful and lucrative tutor.
