Math is one of my top subjects! Math in general is most certainly my strongest subject, as I completed through AP Calculus in High School with no less than a B in every class (and that was only Geometry and Statistics, because of the more studious and less logical aspects of them). Overall, any math subject, I am the guy to call (trust me all of my friends do) and I will be able to teach it to you. I can thoroughly break problems down and illustrate various check lists to make sure you're on the right path.

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. Learning Math can be FUN!

I try to explain concepts by explaining the methods behind them. Once a student understands the concepts, it is easier for them to apply them to other problem situations.
With over 35 years experience teaching math, I have successfully taught students from third grade through college calculus. I enjoy math, and my students are able to understand it in a one-to-one teaching environment. During this time of closed schools, it is difficult for students to understand and adapt to this new way of learning. Many teachers are overwhelmed as they had to change their teaching methods with just a couple of months remaining in the school year. I have been teaching online classes at Forsyth Tech. for some time. Transfering this experience to one-on-one tutoring gives me the opportunity to help students that want to end the school year successfully. Let me help you improve your understanding ... read more

If the student knows English, everything else in general business can be taught. Thus, in a tutoring environment, I try to make learning fun and make a game out of speaking and writing proper English ... read more

I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. In math and science, it is important that students know how to apply knowledge rather than merely memorize information. In that regard, it is my job to make sure that students understand the core concepts of the material and then reinforce and encourage them to develop problem solving skills that will help them succeed.
As a graduate with an engineering related BS degree from North Carolina State University, my background intense in the maths and sciences. I have a passion for teaching and believe that all children should be given the opportunity to be successful. I have a sincere commitment to teaching and developing the highest potential of my students. I am calm, resourceful, intuitive, dependable and flexible. I am understanding, patient and enthusiastic when working with students. I have a great rapport with my students and prefer to deliver content through modeling and hands on activities. Students tend to make a connection between content knowledge and previous experiences. An essential part of a student's understanding is that a student learns how to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had several different interactions with children of all ages, spanning from elementary to college students, and have enjoyed every experience. I am excited about becoming a teacher to influence a number of kid's lives, but also love the impact that one-on-one tutoring can have. I have had the pleasant experience of learning how to teach/tutor at Salem College where the constructivist approach to learning is taught thoroughly.
I received my undergraduate Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest in 2006 in Religion and Political Science. I worked at Sloan Academics for one year in Winston-Salem as a academic tutor for a 6th-grade girl in all subjects. In January of 2009 I started the Master's Education program at Salem College to gain both a license as well as a Master's to teach secondary Mathematics. I have taken several Math classes at Salem to be able to teach (Calculus I, II, a ... read more

I began tutoring during my sophomore year of college in the fall of 2006 when I was informed of a wonderful community service opportunity at a local church. The program was geared toward helping elementary, middle, and high school students test at or above grade level proficiency in mathematics and computer literacy. I was very eager to become involved with this opportunity because I knew that I could use my knowledge, skills, and training to assist students in achieving their goals. After being involved with this program for the past several years, I realized that I have a special talent for working with children and seeing them succeed.

I believe that are students are learners. I believe that a tutor must figure out what student have trouble understanding in any subject. I first start by showing all the students all the step involve in solving any math or science problem. After learning where the student is having trouble, I instruct them on methods for studying the materials. I allows eneanged the student in guided practice when solving a problem. Then i have the student work the problem from start to finish. I check to make sure they solved the equation correctly. I point their mistake as well informed them of what they got right. I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Teching where I learned the importance of the constructivist approach to learning.
