My comments on tutoring Speaking : I used to be painfully shy in high school. Once I got to college, I started taking acting classes and getting out of my shell. I'm glad as a scientist that I engaged in those arts, as they helped strengthen my confidence in all speaking venues.

I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the exams, allowing them to secure a 3.0 or higher in the course. I also had to regular help my classmates out with more complex problems in Physics. I was not so much tutoring as working together with them on the homework, but still, it involved clear explanation and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter.
I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the ... read more

I am responsible for professional development of teachers seeking ESL certification, train principals on bilingual/ESL requirements and work as an instructional coach to teachers. In addition, I provide English classes for adults in my district. In order to aid my teachers and help them keep up with the changing needs of our students, I am always researching for the most updated information in order for them to be knowledgeable on what is going on outside the school. I believe in helping the students discover their own answers. Through patient discussion and problem solving the students will better understand the subject matter. It is important to take the time and listen to their problems so as to best understand how to achieve a solution. At times learning disabilities or other problems can require creativity in reaching the student. Through my years of working with teenagers I can achieve that creativity. I am a comfortable and relaxed person. I love working with students and helping them achieve academic success. Nothing is better for me than seeing a struggling student find new and exciting success.
I graduated in 2004 from the University of Oklahoma with my Bachelors in Business Administration. I regularly helped my fellow students survive the academic rigors of Business School. In 2009 I graduated from Texas Christian University ... read more

Towards the end of my college career I assisted in "Community New Start" in Austin, TX which was a mentor program assisting high school children in under-privileged districts. I assisted with basic math and English material. A few months later a group of us from the University of Texas assisted in the "Reagan High School" project, where the district was considering closing the school down due to failing TAKS scores, mainly in reading comprehension and math. This entailed going into classrooms and helping teachers with students needing help in basic math and science tutorials.
I begin by first gaining an understanding of what their knowledge and perceptions are on a subject so I know their level of comprehension. Afterward, I like to illustrate the main parts as they relate to the whole so the student can get a full grasp of how each component fits into the big picture. From th ... read more

My teaching style is one in which I strive to engage students in the subject by both instructing and challenging them to think on their own. I also strive to accomplish this goal in such a manner that the student experiences the fun that is a part of learning, but one that also emphasizes the importance of the learning process as well. In all of my tutoring and teaching experiences, I communicate how critical good study habits are: self-discipline; finding a quiet place to study; punctuality; attention to detail; following the rules; etc.

I am a born teacher, and I love the challenge of bringing students who are less than engaged in the learning process to becoming eager and confident learners. I am patient, though I also believe in setting goals and reaching benchmarks and deadlines. My basic philosophy is that all young people are not only able to learn but also capable of much more than they or their environment may believe. My goal is to increase their confidence by praising their successes, and to hone their skills by expecting rigorous application of their efforts to the learning tasks at hand.
I have been teaching and tutoring students since the 1980's, both in Israel (where I completed my B.A.) and in the United States, first as a graduate student and then as an Assistant Professor of English. A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduating senior in Microbiology My comprehensive coursework in the hard sciences, including Biology and Chemistry, provides me with substantial knowledge in several domains. By the end of my time with the tutoring center, I was designated a CRLA Level 3 certified tutor. In addition to my tutoring experience, I also worked as a student teacher, teaching math to two classes of seventh graders. I learned necessary skills in classroom management and how to create lessons that are flexible enough for students on different levels of knowledge and comprehension.
I focus on showing students why a correct answer is correct and guide them with questions so that they can cultivate the correct answer on their own. I learned the importance of building rapport and ... read more
