Japanese is one of my top subjects!

I have studied and spoken Japanese for around 12 years, speaking at an intermediate level. I understand the intricate workings of the grammar and vocabulary and can thoroughly teach how to speak and understand from logically comprehending its inner mechanisms (I.E. thinking in Japanese) which will make speaking easier. It is easier than it sounds, and simple to understand. Since I speak at an intermediate level, I can help tutor elementary and intermediate Japanese with essential foundations like proper pronunciation, particles and essential vocabulary. I am also open to any other questions you may have in the future. Since I intimately know the Japanese language, I am also capable of teaching English to Japanese speakers as well. As a native English speaker, I can offer help in common confusions in the English language such as pronunciation, definite articles and conjunction. I t ... read more

Hence why since 2010, I have been working as a freelance language tutor and translator.

Japanese is one of my top subjects! I have studied Japanese since high school and lived in Japan for 1 1/2 years total. My spoken Japanese is colloquial and fluent, and I am also very familiar with formal written and spoken Japanese. I have a wide knowledge of many traditional Japanese arts and Japanese culture as well.

Although I am not a certified teacher of Japanese, I know what it is like to be a student of it. I first went to Japan at the beginning of high school with the American Field Service (AFS). I had never studied Japanese before and I lived in a small town, lived with a family that spoke no English, and attended a Japanese high school for one year. Since my Japanese was initially learned entirely from immersion, I have a very natural intonation and colloquial speaking pattern--something difficult to acquire in a classroom. I have since studied Japanese grammar and Kanji formerly for almost 5 years. I returned to Japan in 2009 to spend a semester at the International Christian University in Tokyo as an exchange student. As the university is bilingual, I completed half of my course work entirely in Japanese. In addition, I have experience with kendo (Japanese sword play), kyudo (Japanese arch ... read more

My comments on tutoring Japanese : 5 on AP Japanese in high school. Also speak Japanese at home.

I prefer one on one tutoring so I can adjust how I tutor to each students needs, but I have also done group tutoring before. All in all, I personally want to work in whatever environment will help the student learn most effectively.
Tutored many students during high school and I am currently a 1st year Chemical Engineering student at University of California, Berkeley. In high school, I tutored AP Chemistry, many levels of math, and many other science courses often. I also worked with younger students in middle school on many of the general subjects.

I believe that being too serious about learning is not the only way to be successful. I would like to teach Japanese in fun and enjoying style.
I was raised in Japan till age of 9, so my first language is Japanese. After I came to the United States, I went to Japanese school to keep up my native Japanese skills. (The school I went, Asahi-Gakuen is targeted for students that may go back to Japan. They use same textbook as schools in Japan and almost same pase of teaching)
