My experience comes from many years of Teaching, Training, and Coaching. My first teaching experience come form Douglas County as a substitute teacher mostly for the special education program. Next I have worked for Fairfax County Schools and for Fairfax County Program called SACC. My years in Richmond were with Chesterfield County Schools and Club Z Tutoring. My Last school was Meadowbrook High School in the Special Education Classrooms.

I utilize elements of each of the five teaching styles; however, I prefer the I Do, We Do, You Do style of learning. I firmly believe in providing clear instruction and demonstration of each concept. Most of my experience is working with students who have issues beyond a normal student whether it be learning disabilities, behavior problems,or emotional/phsychological issues. I have taught in many alternative school settings, but I have also taught in main stream schools, both public and private. I have successfully taught students to read and write when the system had given up on them, and on the flip side of the coin, I have taught advanced placement/honors students. I have taught grades seven through twelve.

I have recently earned a Bachelor's Degree in Legal Studies and graduated Summa Cum Laude, which is the highest of academic honors. In order to obtain my degree, I was required to take several courses in a very broad area of study including writing, literature, reading, mathematics, history, and sciences. My teaching style follows one important rule: NEVER become so concerned with following my lesson plans to the letter that I miss what is truly important: teaching moments. A teacher has to learn to listen to his or her class and realize when the moment to abandon the lesson plan has come. This willingness to release some control over the class and allow it to develop more or less organically does not always come easily, however.
