My first responsibility is the empowerment of my students. I always want my students to have a concrete sense of motivation and what their goals are, even if it's just getting a passing grade. Next, I want my students to believe that they are capable of reaching their goals. If they are capable of performing under one set of circumstances, it's possible to perform under any set of circumstances, especially tests. After that, we get down to the brass tacks of learning: How the student learns best, what strategies we can use, and how much building or remodeling we have to do.
I graduated summa cum laude in the Honors College at Missouri State with a degree in cell and molecular biology and extensive studies in math and physics. As part of being a natural speaker, I love communicating with people on several different levels of communication. I always try and determine what works best for the student in order for them to learn the subject material like illustrations, reading the textbook, or using a computer-based program. I also like to use example problems to reinstate the concept ideas of the materials. I use analogies in order to help the student to think about concepts in a different manner, usually resulting in comprehension. I like to throw in a little humor from time to time to help the student to relax and feel more comfortable. Also if the environment permits, I love to use hands-on experience in order to help students to understand concepts.
