My comments on tutoring Poetry : My favorite end-of-the-year project. Students creatively put together bound booklets with different types of poetry they learned. I make poetry a lot of fun!

I have worked with children in a variety of settings and ages over the past 25 years: church camp counselor, gymnastics coach, dance instructor, theater, forensics judge, tutor, and classroom teacher. These experiences have both shaped my style of teaching and equipped me with a broad range of skills needed to connect with, instruct, and inspire children. I’ve worked for an elementary MPS school, an elementary Charter School, a suburban Middle School, and a Catholic school system. When two of the last schools I worked for closed because of financial difficulties, I went back to school to get my Masters Degree in Reading Curriculum and Instruction. Since then, I have not been able to find a teaching job. I am a passionate, experienced, and committed instructor that wants to reconnect with the educational world.

I am a very patient and compassionate individual. I will always help a person capitalize on his or her academic strengths, while working patiently but dilligently to recognize his or her weaknesses.
I am a 21 year-old senior attending UW-Milwaukee. I will be graduated in December 2012 with a BA in Literary and Critical Studies with a minor in Philosophy. I was an exceptionally driven high school student, taking the most difficult schedule my small private school would offer. My course work included AP calculus and AP US government, on both exams I received good marks. In college I studied a wide variety of classes in pursuit of a degree in the liberal arts. My main foci were history, foreign languages and English literature and grammar while maintaining a love for the sciences and mathematics. I have spent the last two years teaching English as a second language in China. My time there was spent teaching the oral skills and tutoring in reading and writing.
As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student disco ... read more

I have been a foreign language teacher and tutor for 25 years (including English, reading and writing). I have taught all levels, all ages, mostly French (my mother tongue), German (my second mother tongue) Hebrew and English. I taught in private schools - 3rd to 12th grades - and in the public sector too: middle and high schools. I took teen-agers abroad, to Europe, (I was their only chaperonne) to supplement what we learned in class. I also tutor adults and children, mostly in languages. I strive to make learning the most fun and relevant as possible.
I am a fervent believer of Gardner's mutiple intelligences, because I know that each person has a unique learning style, and unique interests. Therefore I will do all in my power to discover each and every student's learning preferences, so that learning becomes a responsible, joyful experience. Consequently, I use eccletic m ... read more

Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." At other times, I ask them to pretend that they are really someone else, an actor in a television show, for example, and I have them imagine that the character, not they themselves, are speaking. This releases the student to let go of inhibitions and let the film roll "for the character" and then they stop focusing on themselves.
As a lifelong lover of literature and writing, I have taught students from fifth grade through junior level college literature and writing courses. My MA and Ph ... read more

I spent most of my undergraduate degree focused on learning advanced mathematics. While it was extremely challenging, I enjoyed it more than any other education experience. My love of math was echoed in my love for literature and writing. Although English was less challenging for me, the creative freedom made it worthwhile. All through college, I tutored math an English. After college, I pursued a career in branch banking, and worked my way to branch manager of a Seattle based bank. My love for teaching got the best of me, though, and I returned to graduate school for my teaching certification. I have taught in inner city schools for the last two years, and I haven't looked back since.
I consider myself an engaging and fun teacher, while at the same time a driven motivator. Because of my unusual degree in pure math, my knowledge of the content area and various solution stra ... read more
