Reading and writing are both passions, not parlor tricks.

I am gracious to say that I have accumulated nearly fifteen years of impassioned decorated reading and writing where I was the honored recipient of the Proficiency With Distinction Award for critical thinking, literature, as well as reading comprehension in 2012. I have two short stories published by a high profile Vermont newspaper (Vermont Journal), both of which were published in 2014 and were the recipients of statewide acclaim and accolades. I hold the ability to read comprehensively and to write critically with a flaring imagination and analytical wit at the utmost highest regard. The power of the written word is unparalleled and is a passion of mine beyond description.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I have been a travel journalist for 7 years, writing for Forbes, NY Post, Business Traveler Magazine and more.

I have been a teacher for over thirty years. My subject area is English, but I have taught many peripheral topics such as Research, Sociology and Communication. Journalism is one of my top subjects! I am an environmental reporter based in New York. My articles have been published in New Scientist, Scientific American, Psychology Today, On Earth Magazine and Smart Planet. I can teach you writing skills and interviewing and pitching techniques.

I like to help people learn about English by exploring their interests. For example, if you are a fan of economics we can read The Economist and discuss world politics. If you prefer to talk about animals we can create an entire English lesson plan around that. I can also help with creative writing and essay writing
I am an environmental reporter based in New York. My articles have appeared in New Scientist, Scientific American, Psychology Today, Popular Science, OnEarth Magazine and Smart Planet. I was also a copy editor with a large publishing house for two years where I used my spelling and grammar skills to fact check and proof read manuscripts. I love to travel and learn about people and the world and spent two years living in Paris, France where I was an English tutor to French children and adults. I also co-host a podcast about fairy tales called Tabled Fables. Each month ... read more

Writing is simple when you allow it to flow from your heart.

I am an experienced journalist, filmmaker and creative writer. I have experience with many kinds of writing. I have worked at major news organizations such as Reuters, AP and Bloomberg News and have written in many different genres. I would love to help you with your work. In addition, I have taught English as a Second Language and held private classes in writing.

Experienced, articulate, caring educator available to tutor.

Committed, engaging, appropriately direct, friendly but professional, caring, insightful, compassionate, skilled, motivating. I use appropriate humor and candor to motivate. I do have a behavior policy of mutual respect which sets a protocol and from which all parties mutually benefit.
I am a Speech and Theatre educator with a strong background in English. I have worked with young people over the past twenty years and have been privileged to see many of them benefit from the Speech, Theatre and English training they received in my programs or by tutoring. In this era of instant communication, many of my former students have reached out to me to let me know how meaningful the work was for them and how it motivated them in their lives and helped them to find their true callings. For this, I am profoundly grateful.

Journalism is one of my top subjects! Having written well over 100 published articles, I have a B.A. in journalism and can help you with everything from nut grafs to ledes (that's how we journos spell "lead"). I also have web and blogging experience.

I am a published freelancer (Complex Magazine, cinemablend.com, Weightwatchers.com, The Source, etc), and a middle school Language Arts teacher for the past 5 years. I also graduated Rutgers University with a BA in journalism, and I minored in English, so I cover a lot of bases. I can help you with both reading and writing. I have the experience to take you far.
I prefer online tutoring, but in the classroom, I usually use project-based learning, which encompasses everything from reading to listening to creating until the subject is mastered. I like to use fun, learner-friendly examples to spark interest and imagination. Imagination is very important to me. It's built bridges and cities in the past. Imagination and application is king.

I have love for the art of writing.

As far as experience goes, I've just spent four years as a professional writing major at Kutztown University. I don't have a teaching degree, but I do have experience working with children at Over the Rainbow Nursery School. I would be in classrooms of different age groups ranging from new-borns to 5-year-olds.
I prefer one-on-one only because that's how I personally learn best, and in a one-on-one atmosphere it's easier to pinpoint what one particular child is having problems with.

Yale Student Tutors in the Humanities, SATs!

Ahoy! My name is Julia, and I am a Junior at Yale. I grew up in NYC, prancing around in coffee shops, studying with my friends at 6am the day of a big test. Many students, myself included, learn best when they wade through complexity with other people. I am here to help! I (not so fondly) remember hours of SAT, SAT2, ACT, and AP practice, and am very familiar with the format of standardized tests. I specialize in test prep, as well as Literature/Language, Social Studies/History, and Math (through pre-calculus). As a Humanities major, reading and writing is my food and water! I would be happy to help proofread your papers, brainstorm ideas, or work on structuring effective college essays. I have taught in many different settings - public schools, 3rd grade LD classrooms, journalism workshops for high schoolers, after-school tutoring for middle schoolers, to name a few! I have also ... read more

Critical thinking, perceptive reading, clear writing

I prefer one-on-one sessions so I can be attentive to particular needs of the student, especially when it comes to reading and writing. I work collaboratively in the sense that I like to observe how a student best engages with the material and encourage that method for best results. I am both process- and result-oriented. I can assist rote memorization of facts. I can shepherd critical thinking, perceptive reading, and clear writing.
As Academic Advisor at Hunter College, I provided one-on-one tutoring focused on thesis development, essay writing, and critical reading. I am attuned to the craft of writing, particularly helping writers distill ideas and compose how those ideas can best be expressed. Subject-wise, I have received degrees studying history and international relations from elite liberal arts schools. I have also worked as a radio and print journalist. In short, I am wel ... read more
