A Little Bit About Me...

My passion is the arts. I have explored a variety of areas including fibers, painting, drawing, 3-D, mixed media, collage, clay, graphic design, etc. Skills from all academic areas are used in the arts from math to history. An arts educaiton has been proven to increase learning in these areas and raise test scores. I was a K-8 art public education teacher for three years. For the past three years, I have worked with special needs children in a private school. Other areas of interest include psychology, English, and history.
Teaching for me is a calling. My reward is watching my students grow academically and socially. As a lifelong learner, I seek to ignite a spark for self-discovery in my students' lives. One of the first graduates of a dual degree program from Lesley College(www.lesley.edu),I received a BS/MEd in Early Childhood Education specializing in Early Intervention in 1999. Beginning in June of 1999, I raised my three children full-time. During that time, I worked part-time as a Therapeutic Mentor for PSC of Maine(www.provcorp.com). PSC is a behavioral health agency that serves at-risk school-aged children and their families. Soon after arriving in NC in 2008, I obtained my Birth-K teaching lisence and, in 2009, began teaching full-time for the More-at-Four Pre-K program(www.darecountyschoolsonline). I am returning to Maine with my family in July of 2011, as my husband is retiring from the USCG after 20 years of service.
