At the University of Illinois I decided to follow my passion and study both mathematics and finance, this lead to a degree in Actuarial Science. After working as an Actuary for the better part of 5 years, I decided to come back to school to study Finance and Marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. I have been tutoring students in statistics since I was an undergraduate in college. I enjoy helping students learn the concepts of mathematics/statistics and helping them to understand how to use these concepts in the real world. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. Throughout those years I've encountered many special needs students and many bright students, tutoring in subjects ranging from English, Math, Social Studies, to Computer Science. I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. I enjoy working with children and always have. I feel my teaching style is more in the Socratic method in that I like to ask them questions until they come to the answer themselves because I feel that increases the retention rate of the subject. Additionally, I like to take the concepts that are being taught and give them real world applications and examples to make the learning more relevant. Throughout high school and college I volunteered at a local summer theater workshop for children. In this program I started out as a teen counselor and moved on to be an adult helper and play director.
