A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that tutors are most effective as supplements to classroom teaching. It's my job to clear up questions that might not have been answered, or to take the time to explain the fundamental concepts necessary to continue with the material. I also believe that our time together is best served when the student has already attempted some work and comes prepared with specific questions. I'm willing to spend a long time explaining concepts in different ways, and multiple times. I don't mind building off of ideas learned several weeks before in order to ensure the student understands the current material.
I have received a Bachelors degree in both math and physics, as well as a Masters in applied math. All through college, and even back in high school, I excelled in both math and science. So, though my degrees are in math, I also have a well rounded knowledge of the rest of th ... read more

I am a mathematics major finishing up my bachelors of science in the fall. I've spent the last four weeks participating in a mathematics research program; this work will be continued and compiled into a paper that will be submitted to publishers. In addition, I've tutored students for the last 5 years, while in college and high school, in a variety of mathematics courses, including but not limited to high school math, college algebra, and calculus sequence.
I have tutored students ranging from ones with learning disabilities to adults who have returned to school, and everything in between. To tutor students, especially in mathematics, patience is a big factor. When tutoring, I do my best to constantly go over concepts stuck in the students head. Struggling students tend to fair better with examples and when things are explained in terms of what they understand. I do my best to brea ... read more

I adapt to whatever style is appropriate for each person. I worked a swing shift at a boys home while building up my business and often tutored the school age boys at the on-site school. I can provide both classroom and real life experience on creating a career and in turn a life that is fulfilling.

More About This Tutor...

I thoroughly enjoy helping students learn and watching students succeed. Complex subjects such as chemistry can be overwhelming to some students and I believe that the best way to teach these subjects is to give the student a firm understanding of the whole concept and then concentrate on the specifics. Finding a way to relate a concept to a student is key. I find that just having someone there to explain a concept in a way that is easy to understand can change a student's whole perspective on a particular subject or discipline.
I am a recent graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. I also competed in Division I athletics while pursuing my degree and I have enjoyed successes in both athletics and academics. For the past year I have been tutoring students in chemistry and mathematics.

A Little Bit About Me...

Use of teaching materials is very important in my teaching. There are methods for teaching children to read and to do math that use materials sold by companies. One way to find out about teaching materials to use is to ask people who have home schooled.
I started substitute teaching in September 2001 in the Greenville County School District in Greenville, South Carolina. The Greenville County School District uses a computer system to contact teachers to substitute in schools which starts calling substitute teachers at 5:30am on the school day. I taught K-12 all subjects and special ed. In September through December 2005 I substituted at Duncan Elementry School in Duncan, South Carolina K-3rd grade. January through June 2006 I substitute taught at Easley High School in Easley, South Carolina all classes.
