A Little Bit About Me...

My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I then obtained a position as a youth counselor with the YMCA and quickly moved up to Site Coordinator where I was in charge of my own after school care group, including being in charge of organizing activities and managing youth counselors. Most recently I underwent PADI Divemaster training where I had real world experience teaching and assisting PADI Open Water students with classroom, confined water, and open water training.
My style tends to range based on who I am trying to teach, and I suppose is most accurately labeled as adaptive. I understand that different people learn things in different ways, and so I try to accommodate that with my teaching. Fo ... read more

I am able to relate to students using their learning style and references that connect them to the material for better success. I am patient and use my sense of humor to figure out how a student learns to get the best results. I do not believe that one method works for everybody. I have a lot of experience with students with learning challenges. I love it when a student says "Wow." I like to support and reward their path to understanding. It's best when you see that they are proud of themselves and they did it!
After graduating with a double major in Psychology and English with an emphasis in Literature, I started my graduate work in English and a teaching position as a high school English teacher.
