The most important of the factors are the subject matter and the students learning style. The learning style of the student has to be considered when teaching. Helping a student learn requires finding the most effective method. You want to make sure they understand the subject matter while exposing them to other possible ways to approach difficult problems. A Little Bit About Me...

I learn visually and like to teach that way. I believe there is a great deal of concepts and memorization in Chemistry. I am not able to memorize all of the subject and would not ask a student to. Instead, explanation and demonstration of the concept, followed by memorization of the rule grants a greater understanding. The rule can then be applied to other areas and is worth much more than a large volume of memorized information. This is possibly more true in the fields of Math and Physics, learning rules and concepts goes a long way. I prefer to patiently explain, draw, or demonstrate the concept at hand then work on problems that further illustrate that concept.
