From elementary school to college I have loved education and learning which has been exemplified by my gifted and honors status. I have earned a bachelors degree in Environmental Science, which has strengthened me in the areas of math and science. I also have a balanced knowledge of writing skills from writing countless research papers, laboratory reports, and essays. During the last four years I have worked as an Environmental Scientist.
I love teaching and working with all children. I believe each child has a different learning style and the tutor must identify it and use it to help the child better absorb and retain the information for complete comprehension and not just test regurgitation. I think tutoring students involves a lot of different techniques, considering students learn different ways. I found being patient is probably one of the most important parts of teaching. I worked with probably the hardest age group, freshmen. I learned that repetition was a great way to get them to learn. In math I would have them do the same type of problems with different numbers numerous times. This technique really worked and I was able to teach anybody. It made me feel good when students would tell me “thank you, I thought I would never learn that”. That gave me great self satisfaction knowing I made a difference in this person’s life. I embody the willingness to give all that I have to ensure my knowledge is past on.
