Composition is one of my top subjects! As a professional librarian with a major in English and American literature, I have extensive experience in writing and composition. This includes writing poetry (from age six) and short stories, journals, educational guides used in staff training at the NYS Library, and grant applications. When it comes to reading, I believe most of all in creating an interest for the subject. That goes for all ages. I encourage students to bring reading materials that peek their interest to help them enjoy while learning. For some students that would be fiction, for others it's a game manual. The idea is to start where the child's curiosity lays and move from there into the required readings.
